I have a Buckskin Padded Shoulder Pad for each bag I regularly carry with rather heavy stuff inside, one not by FR of thick bison leather that's especially onerous. They render them much more comfortable & are grippy enough to stay in place on shoulder. The trade-off of deer-hide's soft hand is it wears out quickly, so durability is a concern. The foam inside the pad will compress to near flat & not spring back if you leave even an empty bag hanging on something hard like a chair or door knob for a while, so avoid doing that. Some find the traditional yellow buckskin garish, so it would be nice if FR offered the pads in brown like they do its buckskin drawstring bags. The leftover regular leather pads are useful to put on lightweight bags that don't come with one. I slid one onto each strap of FR's Temperence Tote & another on the leather strap I put on FR's 3-ring binder portfolio. While the buckskin pads are soft, their price is stiff!
