Head down (or over, or up) to frost river trading co, in the heart of the lincoln park craft district

Not far from the Duluth-Superior Harbor, out Lincoln Park neighborhood is just off of interstate 35 near 21st Avenue West. We all work together in a hundred year old brick building that was a furniture store and then an outdoor surplus store before Frost River moved in. It's fun and rewarding to work everyday with the whole production crew, admin staff, retail folks-- everyone at Frost River-- under one roof.

more than just a store, frost River trading is an experience

Upon walking in to our one-and-only flagship store you are first met with earthy aroma of canvas and leather, sounds whirring sewing machines making pieces into packs, and ka-chuncks of rivets being set into Frost River reliable gear. The storefront you just entered is much more than just a store, it's an entire workshop with each level of the building devoted to a different step in the crafting process. This is the only place in the world where you will be able to enjoy the entire line of Frost River goods at your fingertips, AND get a look into where rolls of waxed canvas and hides of leather become your next favorite pack or bag.

be careful not to land further north than anticipated

Frost River is named after a memorable route in the Boundary Waters-- sometimes technology likes to grab this waypoint instead.

“The Frost River has a smattering of everything-- large and small lakes, beautiful falls, winding beaver streams and high beaver dams, tough, poorly-maintained portages, canoeable rapids and adventurous options. It is by far my favorite route in the Boundary Waters."

--Cliff Jacobson, BWCA Guide & Author

Like paddling the Frost River, you'll find a smattering of everything at Frost River Trading. We of course specialize in waxed canvas bags, packs, and luggage, but at our store in Duluth you'll also find locally forged dinner bells, handcrafted Canoe Paddles made by local woodworkers, and beverage carrying cases for all of your travels and tours around the Lincoln Park Neighborhood (breweries and cideries a plenty!).

Duluth, Minnesota's Lincoln park Craft District

We can't wait to welcome you to the Craft District. What was once a run-down and desolate West End of Duluth is now vibrantly alive in both spirit and craft. The Lincoln Park Craft District is home to many makers and small businesses united with entrepreneurial spirit. The neighborhood is is flourishing and becoming an oft proclaimed 'cool' Canal Park.

The 19th block of West Superior Street has become the Frost River Marketplace, housing us and other businesses that have helped build the foundation of the Craft District.

Our neighbors include Love Creamery, Corktown Deli & Brews, Damage Boardshop, and North Shore Federal Credit Union.

#CraftingSomethingGreat is often used to socially exemplify the uplift going on in our neighborhood. Interesting: as we look to the east, just in the distance the familiar Aerial Lift Bridge stands steadfast, ready to rise and fall for watercraft large and small. Duluth's Aerial Lift Bridge is our most distinctive landmark and after you make a visit to see the bridge in action, we invite you to find more authenticity and adventure to the Craft District-- come see stuff being made!
