Our Recycled Remnants Contest is back for its third year! This annual event celebrates creativity and resourcefulness by showcasing how materials that might otherwise be discarded can be transformed into something new. Remnants are an unavoidable part of the production process. While we usually repurpose them in-house, we’re excited to pass some along to our community to see what you come up with. Each kit is unique—no two are alike (because making them identical would be impossible).

New for 2025: This year’s kits will include buckskin only. We thought we’d mix things up and offer a new challenge.

Rules: You’re still welcome to incorporate other materials (like canvas, wood, or metal), but the majority of your creation should be made from the buckskin provided. If you’ve ordered multiple kits, please use only one kit per entry. You’re welcome to submit multiple creations—just make sure each one is made from a separate kit. We encourage you to use what you already have at home rather than buying new supplies. Whether you craft something useful or purely decorative, the main goal is to have fun with it.

    Key Remnants Too Small

I myself do leathercraft, though severe RA in hands has curtailed it. I have a new pair of premium trekking poles which have nice cork grips but are far too small for my XL hands. Wrapped like a bandage with a long strip of stretchy suedecloth on hand to maintain their ergonomic shape, the handgrips were still somewhat too slim. Suedecloth used up, I got 4 RR Kits, primarily for the 2 pieces of buckskin within each, which would add the perfect degree of thickness & unique panache. Careful measuring showed each piece of the buckskin would need to be a minimum of 7" X 6" to fit, which I requested from FR when ordering. Alas, none of the 8 total pieces was large enough! So now I have 4 kits for which I have no use that would cost over half their price in shipping to return for refund. After purchasing 25+ FR products & making many referrals, I think they should have ensured there were at least 2 pieces of buckskin sufficently sized to meet my requirements. You dropped the ball on this one, Frost River!!!

    Bushcraft Projects.

My out door activities span many adventures from bushcraft to thru-Hiking long trails. I have always been drawn to the "Old School" ways of adventuring in the outdoors. Material suck as canvas, leather, brass, iron.....ect speak to me on a primal level. The remnants kit I recieved will get my creative "Bushcraft" projects rolling, those are yet to be determined. Thank you for the outstanding and old World quality of all your products, which ate classy and timeless.

This was all scraps, nothing in there to work into some type of gear.

I have purchased a bit of goods from you. This offer did not measure up to my expectations.

    Remnant kit

I ordered 2 remnant kits so I could try the remnant challenge. There were about 6 approximately 6"x6" squares of waxed canvas, 6 smaller canvas squares and a generous amount of leather strap and pieces. I was able to make a small cross body pouch out of one kit, and a snap purse, a bracelet and a "urban forager bag" out of the other. I have more leather strap and pieces left over that I could use for more leather jewelry or something else. It was fun to try the remnant challenge and I feel I got good a value from the remnant kits. I love the idea of the remnants being put to good use and not going to the landfill.
