Tales from the trail

I was in the market for a canvas/leather combination, heady duty, stylish and unique backpack that I could use for specific purposes such as, going to the coffee shop to buy beans, going to the mall to buy new clothes/shoes, going on a hike/long walk off trails, spending a day at the beach, travelling, going to spend the night at a friends house, going on a day trip etc.
I found this bag through a Google image search and right away I knew it was the one I wanted. I received it in the mail about a week ago. Very professionally packaged and the nostalgic smell of the new leather is amazing. It’s an extremely well built bag that I’m sure will outlive me. The pockets on the inside are perfect for storing small items such as a portable charger, cell phone, and my wallet (especially when hiking, I like my pockets to remain empty). The outside zippered pocket is also a great feature as it can hold a fair bit without you needing to go inside the bag itself. So I put items like gum, granola bars, pens and my keys in there.
Another feature that I found pretty amazing was the fact that each side has a pocket for holding your water bottle. My last comment is, the bag is easily accessible. Initially I was a bit worried that having to unbuckle the straps each time I wanted to enter the bag would be frustrating, but it’s actually really easy and not a bother at all.
Very well made
Couldn't be happier. Can't wait to put some miles on the pack.
This is a perfect pack for my daily use needs. Its design is flexible to accommodate a lot of stuff or very little. It's small enough, though, that you can't go too overboard and regret the weight of unnecessary stuff. I didn't quite understand the rain flaps at first. I put a key ring in the grommet in one flap, tied a loop of leather shoelace in the other flap and link the two with a mini carabiner. If you make the loop the right length, it pulls the sides in just enough such that when the pack's main flap is buckled down, the mouth of the bag is fully covered. Without this, the mouth of the pack can be slightly exposed so that rain could get in. I wouldn't necessarily suggest that FR includes a Paracord or leather lace loop and carabiner like I made, but that is only because it allowed me to figure it out myself and make my own solution. The Premium upgrade features are worth it. I had an Ogio and a North Face pack that both had failed stitching on the straps after just 2 years of use on each. No more of that. I'd have been money ahead to just buy this one once.
