I use a Summit Expedition pack and the Jay Cooke sling pack everyday for work. The Summit carries tools, lunch, and drinks. Once at work The sling pack carries a trimmed down amount those items along with a hat and coat. Not at all what I bought it for but I can’t imagine not having either. Got my wife a sling pack and it’s her Go bag. Gave another sling pack to a friend because I know he’ll never wear it out. Any future pack I add to my collection will be from Frost River.
Nice size sling pack. Quality and styling are excellent. Zippers and hooks work very well. Material is sturdy and feels like it will hold up to rugged use. Love the G-hooks which make it easy to put on and access the lower zipper pouch. Have received a few compliments already on the uniqueness of the look. I expect this will be something to pass down.
The small improvements I would value:
1) Increase the size of the zipper opening so that a full size lap top is easier to get in and out (I bought it primary as a work bag),
2) Make the main pocket slightly larger. Just a bit more room would increase day packing utility - e.g. make it big enough to fit the Frost River padded sleeve so they are integrated.
3) Add a carry handle on top.
I absolutely love the quality, and the rustic look. The bag looks and feels very durable. I am beyond satisfied.
Absolutely beautiful bag! Few small changes i would like to make, but all just personal preferences. Bag is so functional, and sturdy. Truly hope it last and can be passed down
I joke about calling this bag my purse. But it basically is and I will own that because I love this bag.
This bag is small, but will carry more than you expect. I love the brass clip in the small top zipper pocket. I have a wallet with a paracord tether that I usually attach to my belt. When I carry this bag, I clip the tether to the brass hardware in the pocket so my wallet stays secure even if I forget to close the zipper. I also clip my keys to it at the same time since I have them on a carabiner, and I have a small airtight pill case that is always clipped in to hold a few ibuprofen, just in case.
In addition to that, I keep a light hoodie and packable rain jacket inside the main zipper pocket. I have couple of pens, my knife and a multi tool along with a small notepad that live inside the smaller zipper pocket under the flap. 1-2pairs of sunglasses (I keep an extra pair on me in case someone else needs some or I break mine) and a hat stay securely under the cord sinch where they’re easy to access.
I love the brass hook closure that is on both the flap and the shoulder strap, it’s secure but easy and fast to undo. Not to mention all of the materials are sturdy and will probably last longer than I will.
I’m picky when it comes to bags, and Frost River has blown me away so far. I also have the arrowhead eco and the carry-on explorer duffel and I have no regrets on what I’ve spent, only plans for future purchases of different sizes and models.
