As another review of the Taconite Trail Bike Trunk says, not only must the bag do the job, it must look damn good. And if he thinks it looks good on a Surly Long Haul Trucker, you should see it on a Specialized AWOL, the green and brown of the bag a perfect match for the army green and brown of the bike. The bike trunk (or the bike boot, as we call such bags on this side of the Atlantic) is just the right size for a spare tube, a proper repair kit and a café lock, with plenty of room left over for a half bottle of wine and a picnic lunch or for those free range eggs and homemade sausages you purchase from the farms you pass on your afternoon ride through the countryside. And having ridden through more than one downpour with the Frost River bike boot now, I was pleased to find everything inside still nice and dry, the bag completely waterproof.
This is the second Frost River bag I've gotten for a bicycle. The first one was the panniers back in 2009 for year round bicycle commuting. This trunk bag is for the rear rack, which is a perfect size and the tough build is great. I already know that after 14 years the bags last and last. This tells me it is nearly a lifetime bag. The simplicity of the design is part of the appeal; keep it easily functional with rugged materials and rugged craftsmanship. Thank you for not giving up with this set of classic designs, I was happy to see that these bags were still available.
Absolutely love it!
Stellar bag! Fits nicely on a rear rack - can hold a full lunch & a 6 pack no problem
