Description

These traditional style buckskin leather choppers with the removable chopper liners option allows quick drying and simple replacement of your insulation. The buckskin Choppers are available in three colors. The liners (available separately) are made in the USA by Fox River. They're currently available in size large, blended 50% wool, 50% acrylic. Our buckskin is locally sourced and has a durable yet supple texture. All of our buckskin comes from real, wild deer hides, so each one is a little different, making your pair one-of-a-kind. There may be some scarring in the leather, which is natural with a product that comes from the wilds of North America, and it helps make your Choppers just that much more unique, more authentic and more personal. Frost River mittens and choppers are sized to be roomy -- just right for frigid Minnesota winters. Take a look at the sizing chart in the image gallery to see which size of our mitts will fit you best.

    Raw Reliability

The Frost River Guarantee: These mitts and choppers are tough. But if you wear ‘em like they’re work gloves, expect that they will eventually wear out. We guarantee all our reliable softgoods to hold together, that the hardware will do its job, but don’t mistake that for a claim they’ll last forever. We stand behind our work and take pride in making good stuff. However, if you use anything made from canvas and leather long enough and hard enough, you’ll need to eventually repair it, and sometimes replace it. When that time comes, we hope you choose to replace it with another Frost River item. What’s the guarantee cover on mittens? We’ll cover that the seams will hold, the elastic will stay in place, and on the Great Northern Choppers the brass clasp will last and work as long as the mitts hold together. Other than that, repairs for holes, rope-tows chewing through, or dogs discovering the deliciousness of your mitts etc. would fall under the “repair at a reasonable rate” clause if they're still repairable.

American made mittens

I have not tried them elk hunting yet, but I hope to soon. If they are good enough for Randy Newberg then they should be good enough for me!

Perfect mittens for hunting and hiking

High quality. I expect them to last at least a decade for my purposes (hunting and hiking). I own two pairs. Choppers are extremely warm with wool inserts. I put a hand warmer inside the inserts on extremely cold days. Even with the hand warmer inside there is plenty of room. I use a wool insert with a trigger finger while hunting. Made in USA. Used extensively by Randy Newberg (famous hunter). Buy them and have warm hands.

Poor fit liner, poor service

I've spent over a thousand dollars on Frost River items recently, so didn't hesitate at looking for a mitten options for my whole team. I received the mittens and liners promptly and was excited to give them a try. The mitts themselves seem well put together and of good quality, but something was really off with the liner. The thumbhole seemed off and was actually really painful to work in. No worries I thought, $100 pair of mittens and a "We Just Plain Guarantee Our Stuff" commitment from Frost River, I'll just contact customer service and exchange the liners for a new pair. After explaining the situation to customer service, and having to send photos etc., the response was simply "Well, we don't make the liners, so it's not our problem, maybe you can just turn them inside out." Ha, no thanks. I'm busy running a facility, don't have time for poor service and wouldn't expect my customer to tolerate it either. No more Frost River, just purchased $4500 worth of Stormy Kromer for the crew instead. Too bad, I like my Pilot Brief and other accessories but I'll move on.
