Autumn Leaves are Coming Soon!

Fall is in the Air

Waking up here in the Northland has been a bit different recently. The humidity is lower, there is a bit of a chill in the air, and it is a bit darker for a 7:30 AM commute. The signs are all pointing to one thing; fall! Fall is one of the BEST times of the year to experience the North Shore (but really, is there a bad time?). The cool temperatures allow you to hike further more comfortably, and the sunsets/sunrises are absolutely stunning.

One of the main reasons outdoor enthusiasts travel from far and wide to visit our neck of the woods, however, is the AMAZING leaf colors! The North Shore is famous for its autumn colors, with stunning reds and vivacious oranges that would make any photographer cry tears of joy. The typical prime times to visit the incredible leaves are coming soon! You don’t have to go far to see these colors, as some of the best lookouts in the area are right here in Duluth. These areas include Enger Park, Rock Knob at Hartley Park, Bagley Nature Center Lookout, and Hawk’s Ridge Observatory. Each one of these areas is located within Duluth city limits and can be gorgeous during September and October.

If you are feeling more adventurous and want to head further north. There are PLENTY of areas that are home to historically beautiful autumn leaves. Lutsen ski area is one of these places. With stunning bluffs and spectacular views of the lake, Lutsen is the Mecca of fall colors! Grand Marais is also a wonderful place to get your orange, red, and yellow fill. While you’re there, check out the World’s Best Donut Shop in downtown Grand Marais. You won’t be disappointed! All the way up near Canada is the 270 Degree Overlook at the northern terminus of the Superior Hiking Trail. There you will get a 270-degree view of some of the most diverse and vibrant landscapes in all of Minnesota! It is a bit of a drive and a hike to get out there, but it is totally worth it!
