GET OUTFITTED
I bought this bag to carry a little more than the satchel, which I love using. I needed something a little bigger for hiking and the Florida summer heat is to hot to put on a backpack. I mostly use the shell bag to carry my water, binoculars, small personal hygene kit and books and maps. The leather strap is a little long for me at 5' 4" but adjusts down. I may have to cut some of the extra off but the leather is so nice that I hate to do it. I have been switching things around and using it as a daily carry bag when not hiking. I use smaller pouches inside to organize. The only thing I wish it had, and this isn't a complaint, is a strap to hold my keys. I wouldn't hesitate to buy more bags from Frost River.
I bought the bag for my wife as a gift. She absolutely loves it. We are both fans of the frost River products and we will definitely shop more with them in the future

Bag arrived with crumpled shoulder pad and I had to enlarge hole so it would lay flat. I had to polish all the tarnished brass and the trim on the back was uneven. This is the frost river product that has not been well made and finished.
I have been looking for a solid field bag for years. I went down the route of military surplus, but never found one that met my needs. I have owned many Frost River bags over the years, and have not had a failure yet (aside from a strap on a 15 year old briefcase). This one does not disappoint. I will be putting it in use on a solo walking tour of Gettysburg within the next few weeks, and should allow me to carry small snack, reference books, map, and water without issue.
