Ranger Short Shoulder Bag

History of the pack name, meet Ranger Tina Short: Tina Short was the first African American female employed by the National Park Service. As a child, short attended Fort Dupont Park’s day camp and became a Junior Ranger. As a child she was inspired to become a full-fledged Parr Ranger upon her first meeting of a mounted ranger. When she expressed her interest in the Park Service, Short was told, “Sweetheart, they don’t have colored people and they sure don’t have ladies.” Years later, Short was hellbent on following her childhood dream and was accepted into a rigorous 10-week Ranger Skill Training which included, learning to rappel, search and rescue, create interpretive programs and complete administrative duties. Her first assignment was as Park Ranger at none other than Fort Dupont Park. She developed programs that the park that are still in use today and expanded her career with the National Park Service by traveling as part of the firefighting and search and rescue teams. Looking back, she said “I was so adamant about the fact that was what I wanted to be when I grew up— I wanted a horse and hat.” And that’s exactly what she got and more.
