Husband lives the quality and size is perfect for weekend trips even when he has to carry extra jackets and boots.
Very nice bag. Strongly recommended.
I do not write many reviews, but I think this is an appropriate time. I generally purchase more expensive bags with perceived quality given the companies history, and presence. This time after doing lots of research searching bags nearly four to five times the price of this bag. I could not help but wonder why. Why would I spend such a large amount on a bag not made in the USA. I wondered how could a bag at this price be as good as any of the higher priced bags with a large name backing them. After seeing that Frost River has been manufacturing purpose built items for over 250 years, and source all materials from the USA. I thought there must be something to this company. I found this Overland by pure chance, and thought if it lives up to the name it must be worth the retail price. The bag has now arrived, and yes it is absolutely worth the price. I was skeptical on the leather used when seeing the online pictures, yet the pictures do not do this bag justice. I have a long experience with super high quality leathers, and this bag not just met my expectations, but exceeded them. The leather is exactly what I wanted. Very well treated, and I have no fear of getting the leather wet. The canvas is thicker, and more durable then expected. This bag simply looks stunning. It has a solid shape, and has the appearance of a vintage right from the trading post hand crafted look. Some customers may not want the hand crafted look, and feel, but that is exactly what I want. I could easily see this bag in a saddle shop in the 1800's. My only request is on a bag of this level offer a leather shoulder strap. I purchased mine separately, and yes that leather is of real USA durable quality. If you have reservations on this bag don't, it is worth every penny, and more.
I can pack 5 days worth of clothes into the bag easily and still have room for my toiletry bag and other small accessories, cant wait to get the weekender size to go with my carry on.
I purchased the larger of the two Overland Valises from Frost River’s distributer in Perth, Australia. The bag’s timeless stylings appealed to me. Upon unboxing, the excellent quality manifested throughout the bag inspired immediate use! The valise sparsely packed for a three-day jaunt, I went off to test its practicality in the field—or rather, train stations and hotel lobbies. Seven longer trips later, the Overland Valise has more than proved it warrants all the praise showered on it by other reviewers.
The carry-on size easily holds a week-supply of clothing without feeling too unwieldly. Actually, compared with other Frost River carry-on luggage, the narrower depth of the valise makes it a more manageable carry for a long haul. The standard cotton shoulder strap does its job well enough, but I swapped it for something that better compliments the leather accents of the valise.
Speaking of which, when combined with heavyweight waxed cotton canvas, Redwing leather has never looked sharper. Certainly, these materials reinforced with solid brass hardware give the valise a bit more heft than other luggage out there. However, with that extra weight, it holds like a tank all its contents, safe and sound from the elements.
For outings longer than three days and less than ten, I will always choose my Overland Valise over other bags.
